The city of Glendive is located between the Yellowstone River the Badlands of eastern Montana, which are named for their rugged terrain and jagged rock formations. The county seat of Dawson County, Glendive was established in 1902 when the Northern Pacific Railway was built across the northern tier of the US. Glendive was the headquarters for the Yellowstone Division, which encompassed 875 route miles in the main line. The town was the agricultural and ranching hub of eastern Montana, named for the nearby Glendive Creek.
Today, Glendive is home to approximately 5 thousand residents.
